Verona Road Art Projects Dedication Celebration Oct 31 at 9:45am

As part of Wisconsin DOT’s Beltline/Verona Road project, three artists (Marcia Yapp, Reginald Baylor, and Elizabeth Doyle) were invited to work with area residents to create site-specific, community sensitive art projects. From selection to installation, neighbors collaborated in creating art that reflects their values and ideas: Abundance (2015) Marcia Yapp, The Light Box (2015) Reginald Baylor Studio, and Feed the Dream (2015) Elizabeth Doyle. Community participation occurred through the Allied Dunn's Marsh Neighborhood Association.

On Saturday, October 31 at 9:45am, the public is invited to come see the new works, meet the artists, and celebrate with residents and local officials in the neighborhoods where these works are located. The dedication celebration will begin by the mosaics between the West Beltline Frontage Road and Britta Parkway above Second Baptist Church.

Music is being generously provided by the Dark of the Moon Contra-Band from 9:45-10:15. Remarks by the artists, DOT, Alder Maurice Cheeks, and County Supervisor Dorothy Krause will begin at 10:15. Refreshments will be served at Prairie Unitarian after the dedication remarks.

Help mark the completion of Madison’s newest public art and experience the power of public art created for and in collaboration with community.

(Note that parking is not allowed on the Frontage road or on most of Britta Parkway. It is allowed on Axel Avenue and on most of Whenona Dr.)
