City of Madison Parking Division Adjustments to Current Garage Reduced Pricing on March 15th
posted
Effective March 15, 2021, the Parking Division will take another step toward returning to normalcy during this pandemic recovery period. The Parking Division implemented a COVID-19 recovery work plan in June of 2020 that included temporary parking rate reductions in City-owned parking garages. The amended recovery plan, adopted by the Transportation Commission on November 18, 2020, established scheduled timelines to incrementally return to the standard parking rates.
Changes to Expect:
- City-owned public parking garages and Brayton lot had previously returned to their standard rates.
- The “Saturdays, first hour of parking is free” will end on March 15, 2021.
- The temporary MAX daily rate of $8 will end on March 15, 2021 in City-owned public parking garages, and standard rates will apply during weekday hours.
- With the elimination of the temporary $8 daily maximum, the Nights and Weekends maximum rate will be reinstated at a temporary lower rate of $5.
- On weeknights, the $5 max daily rate accrues for each parking session, from 6pm – 5am, Monday - Friday.
- The weekend rates accrue each day, Saturday and Sunday, from 5am - 5am the following day.
- If a person exits and re-enters on the same day, a new session begins, and the hourly rate would again accrue for the new session.
- The “Saturdays, first hour of parking is free” will end on March 15, 2021.
- City-owned parking garages offer a low cost, long-term parking option when parking longer than 2 hours. Garages have integrated a thorough sanitizing requirement for the safety of staff and visitors. This includes contact free entrance, payments and exiting. It is recommended to follow all personal care procedures and public health guidelines. Rates for each location are located on the Parking Division’s Garages and Lots webpage.
Additional information to remember about parking throughout the city:
- Residential Permit Parking and 1-hr & 2-hr non-metered restrictions remain temporarily suspended.
- All on-street meters are enforced M-Sa, 8am – 6pm.
- Peak-hour parking restrictions are enforced. Signs are posted in these areas, highlighting these brief morning and evening restrictions.
- To avoid citation, pay attention to all posted signage in the areas where parking is permitted.
