Questions from Training

How does the Challenge Process work?
The Chief Inspector use the state form to navigate the challenge process. First, they put the person raising the challenge under oath. The challenger must affirm that they are eligible to vote in the State of Wisconsin. They provide the reason for their challenge and why they believe the elector is not eligible to vote.

Next, the Chief Inspector puts the elector under oath. The elector answers whether what the challenger has alleged is true.

The Chief Inspector then asks the challenger if they would like to withdraw the challenge. If the challenge is not withdrawn, the Chief Inspector administers an Oath of Eligibility to the elector.

If the elector takes the Oath of Eligibility, they are given a ballot that is marked as challenged. Poll workers write the voter slip number on a challenged ballot. They also indicate on the poll book that the elector was challenged, and for what reason.

This is not a provisional ballot. It is cast in the tabulator and counted on Election Day.

What is the emergency bin?
The emergency bin is the top door on the tabulator cart. It has a metal flap that we turn down when the tabulator isn't working. Voters can insert their ballot in the emergency bin while we are waiting for the tabulator to be fixed or replaced. Once the tabulator is operating again, we take the ballots from the emergency bin and feed them into the tabulator to be counted.

Is an electronic copy of a voter ID acceptable? What if the DMV issued an electronic receipt?
We checked with the City Attorney. The ID needs to be printed.

Is an out-of-state license acceptable for proving a voter's identity if they are in the poll book with a Madison address?
No. Wisconsin's voter ID law does not accept driver licenses or ID cards from other states.

How do we get credit for this training?
