Project Status Update as of February 21, 2019

The books have arrived!

The final items are being completed and the move from the former library space has started. The library will reopen at its new location on Thursday, March 12 at 11 AM. Read the full press release about the closure and the new library for more information about the space. If you are a visitor to Pinney Library, or serve clients in the Library's area, here is a complete list of service updates(link is external) affected by the close.

Project Status Update as of December 09, 2019

Work continues and is nearing the final stretch. The interior finishes including restroom tile, glass walls and doors, plumbing fixtures, ceiling tile, casework and lighting are being installed. Before the end of the year, the wood trim and carpet installations will begin. After the new year, Tri-North will focus on the final details to prepare the space for the library to install technology and related equipment.

Project Status Update as of October 10, 2019

Work continues. The space is starting to feel like a library. The access floor is installed and the walls are framed and drywalled. Some walls are being painted. The installation of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems continue. The ceiling grids are being installed and doors are being hung. The exterior slab at the outdoor play area has been poured and the finish flooring material will be installed in late October. Please take a moment to view the progress on the Flickr page - link found above!

Project Status Update as of June 20, 2019

Construction continues. Interior walls are being framed and mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems are being installed. The installation of the access floor is scheduled to begin the week of July 8. Work on the outdoor play space will also begin mid-July. The drilling for the geothermal wells began this week. There are 21 wells that will be drilled to a depth of 400 feet each. When complete, the geothermal field will contain over 3 miles of piping.

Project Status Update as of May 03, 2019

Thank you to Ruedebusch Development and Connery Construction for completing the library shell.

Interior construction is now underway!

Tri-North Builders is currently moving into the site, setting up temporary electrical service, and laying out the interior spaces. During the next few weeks, the Contractor will be starting the geothermal work and installing wall insulation and structural steel.

The Bubbler at Madison Public Library is currently reviewing proposals for the two art installations that will be featured at Pinney. One art piece will be located in the north outdoor patio area and the other piece will be located in the Adult Reading Room. New Pinney Neighborhood Library

The future Pinney Library location will be located in the Ruedebusch Development & Construction’s (RDC) “Royster Corners” mixed use development located at the intersection of Cottage Grove Road and Dempsey Road. The City of Madison is negotiating a purchase and sale agreement with RDC for 20,000 square feet of first floor space. The Common Council authorized an Architect Purchase of Service contract with OPN Architects, Inc. at the Tuesday, June 20, 2017, Common Council meeting. Programming and pre-design work will commence in summer 2017, with follow on design phases commencing in Fall/Winter 2017. Pinney Library construction is anticipated to commence winter 2018; and the current scheduled opening of the new Pinney Library is Fall 2019; pending completion of the Library gray box condominium purchase and sale agreement.
