Madison Metro Providing Free Summer Bus Passes for MMSD Middle and High School Students

For the third year in a row, the City of Madison is giving every Madison Metropolitan School Districts Middle and High School student a free Metro bus pass for the summer. This summer Metro has made 7,000 passes available to MMSD students.
“These free bus passes were used for 37,989 trips in the summer of 2021 and 40,562 trips in 2022. I’m excited to get our young people to and from jobs, youth programming, and fun summer activities in even greater numbers this year,” said Mayor Rhodes-Conway. “Our newly designed transit network will provide fast service to places like the Goodman Pool, Madison Children’s Museum and Olbrich Botanical Gardens to name just a few, giving young people the opportunity to learn, grow and play safely this summer.”
Beginning in May, these bus passes will be available for students to pick up in their respective building’s student office. If the student isn’t able to get it from their school before the summer students can later get them at their summer school locations or will be able to pick them up at Metro Transit located at 1245 E. Washington Ave., Suite. 201.
“As a young person my passport to independence was my bus pass and for the third year now the City is showing up for our students and our families by giving free bus passes and in so giving them the freedom to explore and grow in Madison” said MMSD School Board President Ali Muldrow. “I’m proud and appreciative that this partnership with the City makes that possible.”
Students that live in Madison but attend other school districts are also eligible for the free pass and can pick them up at Metro Transit. Passes are valid for the summer, through September 6.
