Bikeways Projects – 2024 Construction
The Bikeways contract is meant to cover small improvements and repairs to the City of Madison bike network. The three projects below have been identified by planners and residents as crucial missing connections for bike accessibility, safety, and comfort.
UW Arboretum
Starting on Monday, June 10, Seminole Hwy at the UW Arboretum entrance, will see a change in traffic control and possible flagging of traffic. Plans include a 10’ shared use path connecting Manitou Way with McCaffrey Drive, which is the western entrance to the UW Arboretum, and the installation of a RRFB (Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon) pedestrian crossing.
Seminole Hwy will remain open both directions for the duration of the project. Construction is anticipated to conclude in July.
W Lakeside Street
Starting on Monday, June 24, W Lakeside Street from Gilson Street to Rowell Street will be closed. Plans include an off-street, two-way cycle track on the south side of W Lakeside St connecting two sides of the Bay Creek Neighborhood in south Madison, removal of parking on the block, pavement replacement, and new curb and gutter.
W Lakeside Street will remain closed for the duration of the project except for local traffic. Sidewalks will remain open on at least one side for the duration of the project. Construction is anticipated to conclude mid-July.
Elver & Greentree Park Path
Starting on Monday, July 22, Elver park path between McKenna Blvd and South Gammon Rd and a section of the Greentree Park Path north of McKenna Blvd will be affected. Plans include repairs to the path and includes construction of a new culvert at the north end of the path to improve drainage.
Elver Park Path and Greentree Park Path may be closed during, some or all of, construction. Work is anticipated to conclude early August.
