Meeting & Event Highlights for the week of July 1st

Hi Everybody,

It's a holiday week, a time of cookouts and gathering with friends and family. Be careful as you travel, and be mindful as you enjoy the festivities.

I used to be a big fan of fireworks, but am less so as I've gotten older. As Bella's dog dad, I'm aware of just how hard the loud bangs are on our furry companions. And, of course, it's well established combat veterans suffering from PTSD are troubled by them as well. I welcome the trend toward lasers and drones, as these are more environmentally-friendly means of celebrating the 4th. 

Here are few updates for this short holiday week:

• No Streets Division Collections on Thursday, July 4, 2024: There will be no trash, recycling, brush, or large item collection on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.  The Streets Division drop-off sites and offices will also be closed.
• Absentee Ballots are in the Mail: The Madison City Clerk’s Office has mailed absentee ballots to more than 14,000 voters for the August 13 Partisan Primary. “It is not too early to request your ballot if you plan to vote by mail,” said Mayor Rhodes-Conway.
• Crossing Guard Recruitment Begins for Upcoming School Year: The City of Madison Traffic Engineering Division is currently recruiting crossing guards for the upcoming 2024-25 school year.
