WisDOT Public Hearings about the I-39/90/94 Corridor Study 7/29 and 30
From WisDOT:
“The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) invites you to attend a public hearing for the 67-mile I-39/90/94 Corridor Study in Dane, Columbia, Sauk and Juneau counties between Madison and Wisconsin Dells. There will be three opportunities to attend the public hearing: one virtual and two in-person.
The virtual public hearing will be held Monday, July 29, 2024, via PIMA/YouTube Live at www.tinyurl.com/InterstateVirtualPH. If interested parties do not have internet access, they may call (608) 571- 2209 and enter Conference ID: 588 603 889# to listen to the virtual public hearing. The virtual public hearing will begin at 5 p.m. and will end when all interested persons have provided testimony or 7 p.m., whichever occurs first.
The Madison in-person public hearing session will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Madison College Truax Building, Conference Room D1630, 1701 Wright St., Madison, WI 53704.
The Wisconsin Dells in-person public hearing session will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Wisconsin Dells High School, HH Bennett Hall and Cafeteria, 1501 Brew Farm Road, Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965.
If you have any questions, or if you're unable to attend one of the scheduled hearings and would like to give your testimony or find out more about the study, contact David Schmidt, WisDOT Project Manager at (608) 246-3867, or email David2Schmidt@dot.wi.gov.”
Here is WisDOT’s webpage for the Corridor Study project. The City has been engaged throughout the process and has been sharing comments and feedback to WisDOT in support of design considerations that:
- Improve traffic safety
- Accommodate alternate modes of transportation across the corridor
- Improve connectivity across highway barriers between neighborhoods
- Reduce runoff, air pollution, and noise impacts
The Common Council approved this resolution in April with feedback for WisDOT, also described in my April 20th blog post. The City plans to submit final comments to WisDOT on their draft Environmental Impact Statement, in support of the above goals, by WisDOT’s deadline of August 12th.
Note that there are no official construction timelines yet. Construction timelines will be driven by WisDOT’s project prioritization and the State Legislative Joint Finance Committee’s willingness to fund Madison-area projects. City Transportation staff expect that the Madison-area improvements will take several decades to implement, with start dates unlikely until the late 2020’s at the earliest.
