Note that John Nolen and Willy St will be closed to motor vehicle traffic for several hours on Sunday. I am looking forward to the second annual kickball tournament between MNA and TLNA Sunday from 1-4p at Breese Stevens Field.
Tuesday is the Fall Primary. There will be elections for State Assembly, State Senate, Dane County Executive, and two constitutional amendments. UW Law School Explainer on the Constitutional Amendments If you haven’t voted absentee, please make a plan to vote in person on Tuesday.
Two D6 items at Wednesday’s UDC meeting: request for final approval for 521 E Washington and a façade grant application for Madison Sourdough at 916 Willy St. Plus two informational presentations for projects in D12 and D4.
At Wednesday’s Board of Park Commissioners meeting, the Board will receive an informational presentation on staff’s proposed 2025 operating budget with 5% cuts to meet the mayor’s directive for a Plan B budget if the referendum does not pass in November. The Board may make recommendations. (Mayor Satya will prepare a Plan B Executive Operating budget with $6M in cuts that will be introduced in October). One notable impact is the proposal to eliminate operational support for ice rinks, including at Tenney Park. More details below.
Also at Wednesday’s City County Schools Collaboration meeting at 5:30p, MMSD’s new Superintendent Dr. Joe Gothard will introduce himself and provide remarks.
TIF Review Board: The meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 in a virtual format at 12p. The agenda includes project plan amendments to four TIF districts (45, 48, 52 and 54).
Urban Design Commission: The Urban Design Commission meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, in virtual format at 4:30 PM. Agenda items include a major exterior alteration to an existing building in a planned multi-use site at 131 East Towne Mall, as well as adopting amendments to the Comprehensive Plan related to the Northeast and West Area Plans.

The scope of work includes replacing the fabric awnings with metal new awnings, new wall signage, and removing and replacing exterior gooseneck lighting with frosted exposed bulbs under the canopy.”

From the letter of intent: “This proposed project involves the redevelopment of the properties at 10 & 16 N 7th Street and 2430, 2434, & 2450 E Washington Avenue, which has a former muffler & auto sales building that is now vacant, along with rental properties. These are located on the north side of E Washington Avenue at the corner of E Washington Ave and N 7th St. The proposed development would be a 5-story building with 76 multifamily units and 76 vehicle parking stalls.
This will be a WHEDA affordable housing project and is located in Urban Design District No. 5. The site will be rezoned to Commercial Corridor – Transitional (CC-T) district as part of this redevelopment project.”

Board of Park Commissioners: The Board of Park Commissioners meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, in virtual format at 6:30 PM. Agenda items include adopting amendments to the Comprehensive Plan related to the Northeast and West Area Plans, an informational presentation and discussion regarding the future management of Thorstrand Estate in Marshall Park, and authorizing the City to amend the master community gardens lease with Rooted WI, Inc., for the purpose of expanding the community garden area at Waunona Park.
