Where are you stationed?

Station 1 on the ‘C’ shift.

Looking back at the Recruit Academy, what do you remember the most?

High-rise week. The first day of high-rise week, we went to the top of the Oscar Meyer building, and Captain Lofy had us look over the city. He basically said, “This is what you’re here for. This is for the citizens of this city,” and that was kind of cool for me.

Since graduating the Academy, what are among the most memorable experiences you've had?

There’s been a lot. We recently just had a pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle at a high rate of speed. Being able to be part of his patient care and help the medics out in the back of the med unit was pretty awesome. I’ve been with the same medics on every high-acuity call that I’ve been on, so being able to see them all the time, they’re always teaching me things and telling me what I should be looking for in situations like that.

What was your first experience with a firefighter or paramedic?

I did a job shadow with my dad, who’s been a firefighter for the city of West Bend for 25 years now. I was 10 or 11 years old, and that was my first break into it. I think I was there for six hours, and after those six hours, I was hooked.

From the time I was 4 on, being at the firehouse and seeing what my dad did, I thought it was the coolest thing in the world, but when I got to kind of work with my dad, that’s when I knew this is what I want to do.

What do you do when you're not working at MFD?

I hang out with my kids a lot. I used to drive truck over the roads, so I like being able to catch up on time with them. I also help my dad with landscaping up north and drive truck on side.
