Vacant Dane County Board Seat Covering Portions of Midvale Heights and Hill Farms Now Accepting Applications
postedA seat on the Dane County Board of Supervisors, representing areas of University Hill Farms and Midvale Heights, is now vacant following former Supervisor Aaron Collins’ departure to join newly elected County Executive Melissa Agard’s staff. The County Board is now accepting applications from residents to temporarily fill the seat until a new supervisor is elected in April 2025.
The Dane County Board of Supervisors serves as the legislative and policy-making body for the county government. It consists of 37 supervisors, each elected from a district within the county.

There is currently a vacancy for District 10 (City of Madison Wards 86, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, 115) on the Dane County Board of Supervisors that will be filled by temporary appointment. This position was previously filled by Aaron Collins, who resigned effective November 11, 2024.
“I greatly appreciate the leadership that Supervisor Collins brought to the Board,” said County Board Chair Patrick Miles. “I wish him the very best in his future endeavors. I encourage anyone interested to submit their paperwork and participate in the public hearing for consideration to fill this important role in representing people in the 10th District.”
At this point in the term, County ordinances provide for a vacancy to be filled by temporary appointment by the County Board chairperson, with confirmation by the County Board. This seat will be on the ballot of the April 1, 2025 spring election, to fill the remainder of the term. The County Board intends to act on the appointment at its regularly-scheduled meeting on December 19, 2024 at 7:00pm. Process for temporary appointment:
Individuals interested in the District 10 vacancy must submit a Declaration of Candidacy and nomination papers (containing a minimum of 25 signatures of electors in District 10) to the Office of the Dane County Clerk, City-County Building, Room 106, by 4:30pm on Monday, December 2, 2024.
- The Declaration of Candidacy and Nomination Papers can be found on the Dane County Clerk’s Office website at https://clerk.countyofdane.com/Elections/Run-for-Office#supervisors.
- Contact the Clerk’s Office with any questions regarding required paperwork at (608)266-4121.
- Applicants will have the opportunity at the public hearing to describe their qualifications for the position. Further instructions will be sent to applicants after the paperwork is submitted.
- Members of the public are welcome to submit written support in advance to board.office.staff@danecounty.gov;
- Members of the public may register in support at the public hearing or register to speak (3 minutes per speaker) in support at the public hearing.
