Electrical Failure Identified as Cause of Home Fire
Incident Details
The Madison Fire Department responded to a home on the 1300 block of Temkin Avenue for a report of fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters noted light smoke from the eaves on the front of the house and through a vent on the roof. Crews entered the home and began searching all areas of the to locate the source of the smoke. While there was no obvious location of the fire, firefighters did find light smoke on the second floor along with the smell of wood burning.
Ladder Co. 7 and Engine Co 4 located active burning behind a wall on the second floor. Water was applied to the fire, and the fire was declared knocked down at 9:16 AM. There is damage to the interior of the home where the fire was found and in adjacent areas where firefighters searched for fire extension.
Upon investigation, firefighters noted evidence of an electrical malfunction in a junction box, causing wires to heat up and start wood floor joists on fire.
Two people were displaced. No injuries were reported. Initial damage estimates are around $50,000.
