Trash & Recycling Will Be Delayed for Some Residents Today Due to Extreme Cold (January 21, 2025)

posted

All residents with a scheduled trash and recycling pickup for January 21, 2025, should be sure their scheduled cart (or carts) is out for pickup by 6:30am.

If the Streets Division is unable to collect your scheduled cart today, Tuesday, January 21, 2025, a truck will return on Wednesday, January 22.

If your scheduled pickup does not happen, and if had your cart out at the correct time, please keep it out so we can empty it when we return on Wednesday.

Why Will There Be a Delay? No Rear-Loading Trucks Will Be Used Today

Due to the extreme cold, the Streets Division will not use the rear-loading style vehicles. This is a change from our previously explained operations.

With wind chills expected to be around negative 30 degrees, we must consider the safety of our staff.

Since the rear-loading style of truck will not be used, this means we will only use the automated-style collection trucks from our fleet. This means we will have fewer trucks out collecting trash and recycling than what we usually do following a holiday.

And since we will have fewer trucks out, we probably won't be able to finish the schedule trash and recycling collection routes today.
