Incident Details
Ladder Co. 2 responded to a report of a chimney fire on Inner Drive. Residents met firefighters outside and reported there were flames coming from the chimney located toward the back of the home. The residents had thrown a fire blanket on the logs in the fireplace prior to firefighters’ arrival to contain the fire at the base of the fireplace.
Ladder 2 went around the home and did notice flames coming from the chimney. Firefighters accessed the chimney from the roof and tried to extinguish the fire with a water can extinguisher, but that attempt was unsuccessful. Crews then dropped "chimney bombs" filled with extinguishing agent into the chimney. With fire still coming from the chimney, crews determined a hose line would be needed to extinguish the fire. A line from Engine 9 was pulled, and the fire was extinguished after removing parts of the chimney to expose the fire.
No injuries were reported, and occupants were not displaced.
