East Wilson Street Closure
postedStarting Wednesday, April 2, East Wilson Street will be fully closed between King Street and South Pinckney Street for the continuation of the East Wilson Street reconstruction project. The closure of this portion of East Wilson Street is expected to remain until mid-June.
A detour will be in place requiring westbound Wilson Street traffic to use King Street to South Pinckney Street. Temporary all-way stop signs will be installed on East Doty Street at South Pinckney Street to facilitate the detour route.
Metro Transit bus stops will be relocated during this time and Routes C and 38 will be detoured. Detailed Metro Transit detour information is available.
Due to the location, depth, and complicated installation methods required for the underground utility work, maintaining a travel lane through the work zone on East Wilson Street is not possible.
Local access for pedestrians and vehicles in the 100 block of East Wilson Street will be maintained from either South Pinckney Street or King Street and will vary depending on the location of the work zone. Access will be limited during working hours (generally 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) from one end of the block or the other. The City’s contractor, R.G. Huston Company, will communicate with businesses and residents on the changing access.

In addition, also starting on Wednesday, April 2, R.G. Huston Company will close the 100 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard at Doty Street to repair concrete pavement within the intersection. The street is anticipated to reopen the following Wednesday, April 9. The northern Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard crosswalk will be closed during this time. Sidewalks will remain open.

Construction updates will be posted to the project website.
