Yard Waste Pickup Starts Week of 4/13/25: Here’s How to Get Yours Picked Up This Spring

Curbside yard waste collection begins the week of April 13, 2025 for some neighborhoods.

You will have two chances for curbside pickup for yard waste – one in April and one in May.

Here’s what you need to do so Streets Division crews can collect the weeds, leaves, and other yard waste you have raked or pulled from your lawns and gardens:

  1. Learn the Set-Out Dates for Your Neighborhood

    Go to yard waste website and enter your address into the form to see the dates when you should put out brush for pickup.

    The website is www.cityofmadison.com/YardWaste.       

    Set out dates are different depending on where you live.

    After you enter your address on our website, you will see all when you should place the yard waste out for pickup.

  2. Follow the Yard Waste Collection Rules

    Keep your yard waste piles at least four feet away from obstructions.

    Never place yard waste piles directly in the street.  This causes damage to our lakes, and it can clog storm drains.

    Bagging or Covering Leaves?

    If you cover your leaves, please choose compostable paper leaf bags and keep them open at the top so crews can see what is inside the bag.

    If you choose plastic bags instead, keep them open at the top, too.  Keep in mind that crews will need to empty or tear open your plastic bags to collect your leaves, and they will leave the plastic bags behind.

    You can also cover your yard waste pile with a tarp to help keep it from blowing into the street.

  3. Wait for Your Pickup

    The dates on the website are when you set out the yard waste.

    These are not the dates when crews will pick it up.

    Collection crews come by during the work week following your set out date.

    If you put your yard waste out after the set the out date, you may miss your collection chance.

Drop-off Sites Available

All Streets Division drop-off sites also accept yard waste, too.

Drop-off sites will remain on the limited winter availability until April 12, 2025.

Make sure you know the hours, locations, and rules before loading your vehicle.
