Urban Forestry Planting 1,400 Trees in Spring 2025
Urban Forestry’s annual spring planting season begins today, Monday, April 7, 2025.
Crews will be planting approximately 1,400 trees along City of Madison streets.
There will be 33 different tree species planted. The variety of species was selected by the City’s trained arborists to ensure a diverse and resilient canopy that can thrive in our urban landscape, benefiting all of us for years to come.
The spring planting will occur throughout the city. Planting work involves multiple Urban Forestry crews in an assembly-line method of planting in order to be as efficient as possible. Spring planting operations are expected to continue through the end of the month.
Upon the conclusion of the spring planting season, Urban Forestry crews will return to pruning and other tree care operations.
In the fall, there will be a second round of planting.

Tree Inventory
If you are curious about what kind of tree you have in front of your home, the Urban Forestry website has an inventory showing information about most of the public trees in the City of Madison.
