What are Common Council New Business Summaries?

Common Council New Business Summaries help readers identify items they are interested in as they make their way through City Boards, Commissions, and Committees (BCCs) and back to the Common Council for a decision. This document provides a short description of each item that was introduced at the most recent Common Council meeting in the “Introduction of New Business for Referral Without Debate” section of the agenda, as well as any items introduced from the floor at the most recent Common Council meeting.

Items Introduced at the April 15, 2025, Common Council Meeting

Ordinances:

87834 – This proposed ordinance would correct certain parts of the Madison General Ordinances to amend things such as grammatical, spelling, and reference errors, among others. This proposed ordinance will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87838 – This proposed ordinance would create a penalty for any individual that directs any disorderly conduct behavior at a city transit operator. This proposed ordinance will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87841 – This proposed ordinance would rezone property located at 1970-1978 University Bay Drive in District 5 to allow construction of a one-story 11,500 square-foot visitor center. This proposed ordinance will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87842 – This proposed ordinance would rezone existing mixed-use property located at 3821 Nakoma Road in District 10. This proposed ordinance will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87843 – This proposed ordinance would rezone property located at 910 West Wingra Drive and 1347 Fish Hatchery Road in District 13 to facilitate expansion of an office building. This proposed ordinance will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

Resolutions:

87703 – This proposed resolution would authorize acceptance of a $250,000 grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to fund a portion of the Neighborhood House Community Center’s costs of building renovation, demolition, and new construction located at 29 S Mills St. This proposed resolution will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87768 – This proposed resolution would provide the Urban Community Arts Network a $15,000 grant for a MadLit program on the 100 Block of State Street in District 4. This proposed resolution will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87777 – This proposed resolution would authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to amend the service contract between the City of Madison and RENEW Wisconsin, Inc. to add the 2025 scope of work and funding for the MadiSUN solar programs for residential, business, nonprofit and affordable housing solar installations. This proposed resolution will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87807 – This proposed resolution would approve a Certified Survey Map of property located at 1 N Yellowstone Drive in District 19. This proposed resolution will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87808 – This proposed resolution would approve a Certified Survey Map of property located at 1802-1804 Roth Street in District 12. This proposed resolution will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87825 – This proposed resolution would authorize the City’s execution of a Second Amendment to Option to Purchase, between the City of Madison and Tri-State Custom Construction, LLC, for the purpose of extending the City’s option to repurchase a certain residential lot within Owl’s Creek Subdivision in District 16. This proposed resolution will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87830 – This proposed resolution would authorize the City to enter into an agreement with the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation for the use of the parking lots in Cherokee Marsh Conservation Park-North Unit in District 18, from June 2 through June 8, 2025, for the American Family Insurance Championship. This proposed resolution will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87831 – This proposed resolution would approve the 2025 Neighborhood Grant Program recommendations, authorize their execution, and authorize the acceptance of any grant-funded improvements for City-owned lands. This proposed resolution will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87871 – This proposed resolution would authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to execute a development agreement with Starkweather, LLC to create a 20-year, mixed-use, Tax Incremental District #55 to assist in the development of the former Voit Farm property in District 15 into 13 lots that may be sold to developers of both market-rate and affordable housing. This proposed resolution will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87873 – This proposed resolution would authorize a contract for design engineering services for the Regent Street reconstruction in District 8 and District 13. This proposed resolution will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87874 – This proposed resolution would authorize the acceptance of $864,524.68 in state funding for the EMS Funding Assistance Program. This proposed resolution will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

87878 – This proposed resolution would authorize renewals for taxicab operator licenses. This proposed resolution will go to the following Boards, Committees, and Commissions on the following dates:

When you click on that link, you will see that there is a drop down for “Meeting,” where you select the BCC that you are wishing to register for. It is important to note that registration is only available once the BCC has published its agenda, which is typically done a few days before the meeting. Once the agenda is published, you can select the meeting and choose the agenda number that aligns with the file number of the item you are interested in. From here, you can choose to register support or oppose the agenda item, if you would like to speak, if you are representing an organization or person other than yourself, and provide your contact information.
