Carmella Glenn: Your Voice for District 18
postedHello, neighbors! I’m Carmella Glenn, and I’m honored to serve as your newly elected Alder for District 18. As a proud resident of our community, I’ve dedicated over 20 years of my life to social justice and empowering those around me. I truly believe in the power of community, and I’m excited to represent your voice on Madison's City Council.
**My Vision for District 18**
I envision a District 18 that bursts with energy and inclusivity, where every single person feels valued and has the chance to flourish. Here’s my commitment to you
*Authentic Community Engagement**: I want to hear from you—all of you. I’ll create spaces where everyone, especially those whose voices have been overlooked, can share their thoughts and ideas. Your input matters!
*Accessible Public Spaces**: I dream of public spaces where neighbors can gather, connect, and collaborate. Let’s design our parks and gathering spots to reflect the heart of our community.
*Economic Opportunity**: Our local businesses are the backbone of our district. I’ll work hard to support entrepreneurs and create quality job opportunities, ensuring every resident can find meaningful work.
*Affordable Housing Solutions**: I’m passionate about finding innovative ways to ensure that everyone in our district has access to safe and affordable housing. Everyone deserves a place to call home.
**For a Better Madison**
While I’m dedicated to our district, my vision extends to our entire city. Together, we can make Madison a better place for everyone.
**Environmental Stewardship**: I know how important it is to protect our planet. I’ll advocate for policies that help us reduce our carbon footprint and cherish our natural resources.
**Enhanced Public Transportation**: Getting around should be easy and sustainable. I’ll work to improve our public transportation options so that all residents can navigate our city with ease.
**Committee Involvement**
In my role as your Alder, I will be serving on several important committees that directly impact our community.
**Planning Commission**: I will work on long-term planning for our district, ensuring that development reflects our community's needs and desires.
**Board of Parks Commission**: I’m excited to advocate for accessible and inclusive parks and recreational opportunities for all residents, enhancing our neighborhood's quality of life.
**Alcohol License Review Committee**: This committee plays a key role in managing alcohol licensing in our community, and I aim to ensure that our policies support safe and vibrant neighborhoods.
**About Me**
I'd like to share a bit about myself: I hold degrees in Criminal Justice and Culinary Arts. I’ve spent years as the Director of Just Bakery, helping people overcome employment barriers. Currently, I’m the Violence Intervention Supervisor for Public Health Madison and Dane County, always striving to create safer, healthier communities.
On a personal note, I’m the proud mom of four boys—two biological and two bonus. I’m also a grandmother, and I’ve been happily married for 12 wonderful years( 20 together). I understand the struggles and joys of family life and how important it is to support each other.
As a Certified Peer Specialist and trainer, I bring both professional knowledge and personal experience to my role as your Alder. I’m here to listen, advocate, and partner with you in building a stronger District 18. Together, we can create a community where everyone feels at home and has the opportunity to thrive!
