Waterfowl Wander ~ Join Paul Noeldner for a free family friendly guided walk or go birding on your own any day in November. Follow easy paths along Lake Mendota, around the Tenney Lagoon and down the Yahara Riverway. Bring binoculars or a camera if you have one!  Look for familiar birds like Canada Geese and Mallards that are forming large flocks for migration. Do you see any cute all-black American Coots? Listen for their squeeky toy sounds!  Can you identify 3 or more species of beautiful Migrating Waterfowl?  Look for brightly patterned black and white Buffleheads, large graceful all-white Tundra Swans, and diving Grebes and Merganzers with punk hair tufts. Listen for the wild call of Common Loons that migrate through Madison each Spring and Fall!  Use an inexpensive bird guide or app such as iBird to help you identify species by their shape, beak, and unique color patterns. Be a Citizen Scientist!  Learn to use the Merlin app and post sightings on eBird!

Nature-expert guided walks in Tenney Park along Lake Mendota and the Yahara River Parkway bike path through the Madison Isthmus are free, family-friendly and held the first Saturday of each month, from 2:30-4pm. The walk begins at the Tenney Beach parking lot, 1330 Sherman Avenue. No registration is required. No pets are allowed. Co-sponsored by Madison FUN Friends of Urban Nature, Madison Parks, Badgerland Bird Alliance Madison Audubon Society, Tenney-Lapham Neighborhood Association  and Friends of the Yahara River Parkway
