MGE: 2025 City of Madison Pruning Permit - District 10 Area-
posted"Madison Gas and Electric Company (MGE) will be performing line clearance tree pruning in your district this year. As part of this process, MGE applies for a permit to prune City of Madison-owned trees within the public right-of-way of any street, alley, highway, or greenway. MGE Forestry works with the City Forester and the City of Madison Streets Division on a yearly plan to prevent over-pruning of City-owned trees. Affected residents in the shaded area of the included map will receive a notice that MGE's 2025 plan for pruning trees on the public rights-of-ways will be considered by the Habitat Stewardship Subcommittee on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 4:30 p.m., via virtual meeting.
Both public safety and our electric system reliability are important to us. Line clearance pruning is done to minimize tree-related storm damage, decrease electric system outages, and limit tree and wire conflicts. As a National Arbor Day "Tree Line USA Utility," we are concerned about the health and appearance of the trees in your neighborhood. MGE's contract forestry crews follow Best Management Practices outlined by the International Society of Arboriculture. The crews also undergo yearly work- and safety-related training.
The included materials may be helpful if you receive questions about MGE's line clearance pruning. Included for your convenience are copies of our different mailed notices and work planning door hangers and a map indicating areas we expect to be pruning this year. Additional information can be found on our website.
A quick map key:
- Salmon-colored polygons are areas in your district where we will be pruning
- Thick black and grey lines = highest voltage (feeds entire neighborhood)
- Blue, Red, Green line = high voltage (feeds blocks of houses)
Sincerely,
Manager Electric Construction Operations"
