The Big Sweep plus This Week's Updates
postedHi Everyone,
Daylight Savings is here and spring is just around the corner, though I'm guessing we still might have one of those late March, early April surprise snowfalls. It is Wisconsin, after all.
At any rate, starting tonight, March 9, our Street Sweepers will be out in earnest, working 16 hours a day to collect as much salt, sand, and other grit and grime as they possibly can.
The Streets Division will have one shift of operators sweeping from 10pm to 6am when the weather allows. A different crew of street sweeping operators will be working from 7:00am to 3:00pm. Crews will be working these hours for up to six weeks, depending on weather conditions.
Why start at night? The street sweeping machines, as you may have noticed, are slow-moving beasts. It will be easier and safer for our street sweepers to get their work done during the night when the rest of us are asleep. Street sweeping keeps the salt, sand and debris out of our storm sewers, thereby preventing all this nasty junk from draining into our waterways and polluting our lakes.
In other words, this city-sponsored annual rite of spring cleaning, I mean sweeping, is very, very important.
If you can, please consider parking your car off-street, so our street sweepers can do their work unimpeded. For more information, please click here.
Now onto the rest of this week's updates:
