Beginning a New Term, Earth Day Cleanup, Curbside Yard Waste Collection
postedHi, all.
My mother had an old saying pinned to the bulletin board above her desk:
“Life is short. We don't have much time to gladden the hearts of those who walk this way with us. So, be swift to love and make haste to be kind.”
My brother recently passed away after a long battle with Parkinson's. It's a mixed blessing, knowing he's no longer trapped in a body that had failed him so completely, yet the loss is no less profound. But the lessons are profound as well. Ruminations on what constitutes a life well lived, what builds community and connection, what upholds our shared dignity as human beings.
Tomorrow I will be sworn in for my fourth term as District 13 Alder. I look forward to working with you to address your needs and concerns while also attending to the many challenges facing our city as a whole. I take seriously this charge, the responsiblity that comes with elected office, and am honored by the continued vote of confidence. Don't hesitate to reach out by emailing me at district13@cityofmadison.com.
Now on to this week's updates:

Lastly....
The first of the spring flowers are now in bloom. (Note to self...get over to the Arb to check out the Magnolias.) The weather is cooperating, baseball season is upon us, and spring fever is gaining momentum.
Still, there are all these whipsawing events, enough to knock you off your centerline. It's easy to be distracted, to turn away, fearful for the future. I'm reminded we need not ask for courage to face the darkening horizon so much as we need courage to live fully in this moment. Because, yes, time is short and kindness is everything.
Take care and stay safe,
