Night work near University & Midvale starting 4/28; Yard Waste pickup begins; Join a park cleanup for Earth Day on 4/26; Events & Announcements

Hello neighbors,

Heads up there will be night work by the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District starting the week of April 28:

  • Preconstruction investigations, cleaning and televising at Maple Ter., Rose Pl., Fern Dr., Hilldale Way, University Ave., and N. Midvale Blvd. This work will take place from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., up to 3 nights. During this time, select detours will be in effect:
    • Truck detour for work at University Ave. and Midvale Blvd.
    • Pedestrian detours for work at Hilldale Way and Midvale Blvd. These pedestrian detours may occur separately.
  • Phase 1 cleaning and televising behind Blackhawk Country Club storage sheds and State of Wisconsin Crime Lab Building.
  • Phase 2 cleaning and televising north of Walnut Grove Apartments along Locust Dr. and Burbank Pl.

Yard Waste Pickup Starts Week of 4/13/25: Here’s How to Get Yours Picked Up This Spring: Curbside yard waste collection begins the week of April 13, 2025, for some neighborhoods. You will have two chances for curbside pickup for yard waste – one in April and one in May.

Events

  • Bird & Nature Adventures | Starkweather Creek Area, Saturday, April 19: Outings include nature walks, canoe/kayak adventures, bicycling tours, and more, and are sponsored by the Madison Friends of Urban Nature, Goodman Community Center(link is external), and the Friends of Starkweather Creek(link is external). No registration is required. Pets are not allowed. Kids under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Join Wild Ones and the Friends of Hoyt Park to team up to celebrate Earth Day in Madison on Saturday April, 19th. We'll have snacks (including hot waffles!) and socializing all morning in Hoyt’s Main shelter next to a fire, join in on Hoyt Park's annual garlic mustard pull, and partake in a short, guided hike to observe some of the early spring flora at the park. 10:00am-11:00am - garlic mustard pull (meet in the main parking lot); 10:30am-12:00pm - snacks and socializing at the Main shelter; 11:00am-12:00pm - wildflower hike.
  • Bird & Nature Adventures | Warner Park, Sunday, April 20: Walks at Warner Park held on the 3rd Sunday of every month are co-sponsored by Madison Bird City FUN partners Wild Warner(link is external). Meet at the "rainbow" Warner Park shelter by the lagoon. Parking is available nearby. No registration is required. No pets are allowed.
