The City of Madison has been a part of the Bee City USA program since 2017. Bee City USA provides a framework to encourage municipalities to reduce pesticide use and provide more bee habitat through the use of native plantings.

Engineering participates in the program by planting rain gardens, ponds and greenways with native plants and native seed; planting native shrubs and trees; timing mows to avoid native blooms whenever possible and using Integrated Pest Management practices to control invasive species.

The Engineering Division started tending to bees at Nesbitt Road and Maple Grove Drive in 2021. Check out the new bee hives according to the Engineering Division's Greenway Vegetation Coordinator.
