Old Fare Items

Old fare items are not accepted when boarding at Metro's new Bus Rapid Transit stations.

BRT stations are located at:

  • Route A (entire route)
  • Route B (between Park St. and Milwaukee)
  • Route F (between Eau Claire and Cap Square)

Old fare items will continue to work on all non BRT buses that board at blue metal signs through the end of the year.

Switch Out Your Inventory

Metro has new single ride tickets and 31-day cards that can be exchanged for old 2-ride cards, 10-ride cards, and 31-day passes.

Bring your old inventory to Metro Transit (1245 E. Washington Ave.)

Transition Period

Drivers are aware that some people still may be boarding at BRT stations with old fare items.

These riders will be allowed to ride.

Now that 31-day cards are available, we ask that these items be switched out as soon as might be able.

Other Agency Options

Rather than using single ride tickets and 31-day cards, give our new refillable fare items a try.

There are two ways to do this:

Online Group Plan (Up to 50 People)

Manage entire program at agency level.

  1. Use Metro's existing online portal.
  2. Create an individual account.
  3. Add up to 50 cards. (Email mymetrobus@cityofmadison.com to receive cards.)
  4. Add a credit card to the account and add a dollar value to the account balance.
    1. Cards will deduct fares from this single account balance.
    2. Riders get individual fare-cap rates based on their individual card use.
  5. Print receipts and monitor card use in online account.

Vendor Portal

If you’d rather put specific dollar amounts on an individual's card, then it will be necessary to receive access to Metro's new vendor portal.

With this new vendor portal, an agency can add add specific dollar values to individual client accounts.

At the end of the month, Metro will send an invoice for all dollar value added through the portal.

To get set up with this portal, Metro will ask you to sign a document acknowledging this invoicing process and payment requirements.
