Mayor Rhodes-Conway Participates in “Communities in Action: Building A Better Wisconsin” Event at the White House

posted

On Thursday, February 16, Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway will join other Wisconsinites for a “Communities in Action: Building a Better Wisconsin” event at the White House. Community leaders from around the state will share ways the Biden/Harris Economic Plan has positively impacted the daily lives of Wisconsin residents.

The City has received over $400 million in federal funding through many important federal laws and programs, including the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act.

Here in Madison there are countless stories of people and places impacted by federal funding:

  • With ARPA funds, the City expanded and improved homeless shelter facilities. The number of people in the community who were homeless and unsheltered declined by nearly 65% from pre-pandemic days, and no families with children were unsheltered in our January 2023 Point in Time survey.
  • With federal ARPA funds, the City of Madison was able to partner with community based organizations to support 900 young, people providing a continuum of services ranging from supported high school graduation, pre- and post-employment training and services, summer youth programming for at-risk youth, and more.
  • With federal rental assistance funds, the City worked with trusted community partners to distribute nearly $31 million, helping over 5,100 residents to remain in stable housing.
