Upcoming Service Changes

There will be two small sets of service updates this Fall. One set will be implemented on Sunday, August 18, with the other set of changes effective later in the Fall with the launch of bus rapid transit

The changes were approved by the City of Madison Transportation Commission on Wednesday, May 15.

Service Updates Effective on Sunday, August 18

  • Route R1 Adjustment - Re-route R1 to Watts Rd., to reduce duplicative service on Mineral Point (which is already served by Rapid Route A). Route will use Watts to High Point, adding stops along High Point south of Mineral Point Rd. This change also provides increased access to nearby grocery and shopping centers.

  • Route 65 Adjustment - To improve on-time performance and increase route reliability, Route 65 will no longer go around the full UW Hospital loop. Instead it will complete its end-of-the-line layovers on Marsh at Highland, and head southbound/eastbound on Highland and Observatory. Riders transferring from the 65 to Routes A, F or R can now make transfers on University/Johnson at East Campus Mall.

  • Route A2 Extended to Hanson Rd. Facility to charge and swap all-electric buses.
  • Make the C2 'detour' near Buckeye, Kings Mill and Cottontail a permanent routing change.

Service Updates Effective with BRT Launch

  • Stop closures and relocations along the Rapid Route A line
  • Bus stop adjustments - local stops that will still be open, but will no longer be served by Routes A, B or F because these routes will be using articulated buses serving the center-running platforms.
  • Routes F and R night and weekend terminal moved to Sheboygan and Segoe, instead of Sheboygan and Eau Claire.
  • New Route B terminal on Troy Dr. at the Culver's.
  • Stop closures for Routes R, 28 and 38 along University Ave. - University Ave. between U. Bay and Segoe Rd., will become a limited stop zone for Routes R, 28 and 38. These routes will only stop at U. Bay, Ridge and Segoe Rd. This is necessary to keep traffic moving efficiently and safely on University Ave., so Metro buses do not block traffic in multiple lanes of University Ave. This change results in two sets of stop closures: University at Shorewood, and University at Midvale.
