The Budget Challenge

As you may have learned from news media or City news releases, all agencies have been requested to propose two budgets, one that reflects a continuation of current services at a 99% level and one that reduces expenses by 5%. The 5% reduction proposals are needed in the event that the Common Council does not approve a November referendum on increasing property taxes or a referendum is approved but defeated. Agencies must also describe what services would be reduced or eliminated.

You can get an early view of this process when the Library Board considers two options for which services to reduce, and you can add your voice to the discussion.
