CIPP Lining-Arbor Hills

posted

This area was selected for water main pipeline rehabilitation, primarily because of the history of water main breaks. Construction is proposed to begin in June and be completed by September.  There will not be any special assessments associated with this water main rehabilitation.

Structural cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining

This method:

  • allows for a new pipe to be constructed inside of the existing deteriorated pipe
  • minimal excavation in the street
  • meets the physical strength properties of a new pipe

During construction:

  • the existing water main must be taken out of service
  • Affected customers will be provided water service through an above-ground, temporary drinking water system.
  • Driveway and roadway crossings of the bypass system will be ramped or buried to maintain vehicular access and traffic flow during construction.
  • While being served on the bypass system, affected properties could have their existing water meter removed and then reinstalled once the rehabilitation is complete.
    • Any such meter work will require the contractor to make appointments for entering a property/home
    • More detailed information regarding the temporary water system and associated water meter work will be distributed closer to the start of construction activity.
  • Street parking within these areas will be prohibited during the project, and there will be short-term, off-peak closures to through traffic.

After Construction:

  • Water Utility staff will survey outside hose connections after houses are restored to the lined water main.
    • These surveys will be used to confirm that proper backflow protection is in place.
