
Night work near University & Midvale starting 4/28; Yard Waste pickup begins; Join a park cleanup for Earth Day on 4/26; Events & Announcements

Heads up there will be night work by the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District starting the week of April 28:
- Preconstruction investigations, cleaning and televising at Maple Ter., Rose Pl., Fern Dr., Hilldale Way, University Ave., and N. Midvale Blvd. This work will take place from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., up to 3 nights. During this time, select detours will be in effect:
- Truck detour for work at University Ave. and Midvale Blvd.
- Pedestrian detours for work at Hilldale Way and Midvale Blvd. These pedestrian detours may occur separately.
- Phase 1 cleaning and televising behind Blackhawk Country Club storage sheds and State of Wisconsin Crime Lab Building.
- Phase 2 cleaning and televising north of Walnut Grove Apartments along Locust Dr. and Burbank Pl.

Yard Waste Pickup Starts Week of 4/13/25: Here’s How to Get Yours Picked Up This Spring: Curbside yard waste collection begins the week of April 13, 2025, for some neighborhoods. You will have two chances for curbside pickup for yard waste – one in April and one in May.
Events
- Bird & Nature Adventures | Starkweather Creek Area, Saturday, April 19: Outings include nature walks, canoe/kayak adventures, bicycling tours, and more, and are sponsored by the Madison Friends of Urban Nature, Goodman Community Center(link is external), and the Friends of Starkweather Creek(link is external). No registration is required. Pets are not allowed. Kids under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Join Wild Ones and the Friends of Hoyt Park to team up to celebrate Earth Day in Madison on Saturday April, 19th. We'll have snacks (including hot waffles!) and socializing all morning in Hoyt’s Main shelter next to a fire, join in on Hoyt Park's annual garlic mustard pull, and partake in a short, guided hike to observe some of the early spring flora at the park. 10:00am-11:00am - garlic mustard pull (meet in the main parking lot); 10:30am-12:00pm - snacks and socializing at the Main shelter; 11:00am-12:00pm - wildflower hike.
- Bird & Nature Adventures | Warner Park, Sunday, April 20: Walks at Warner Park held on the 3rd Sunday of every month are co-sponsored by Madison Bird City FUN partners Wild Warner(link is external). Meet at the "rainbow" Warner Park shelter by the lagoon. Parking is available nearby. No registration is required. No pets are allowed.

Public Information Meeting (PIMs)
- Park Badger Redevelopment Community Meeting (in-person option), Tuesday, April 15: The Community Development Authority (CDA) and the Alexander Company will be sharing the refined design concept chosen by the community for S Park Street and W Badger Road, which will include new housing opportunities. The in-person public meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 15 from noon to 1:30 pm at Madison College, 2429 Perry Street, Rm 201.
- Park Badger Redevelopment Community Meeting (virtual option), Tuesday, April 15: The CDA and the Alexander Company will be sharing the refined design concept chosen by the community for S Park Street and W Badger Road, which will include new housing opportunities. The virtual public meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, April 15 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Zoom.

- Common Council: The Common Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 15, at 12:00 p.m. in hybrid format. Agenda items include honoring the service of outgoing alders, swearing in newly elected and returning alders, and the election of the Common Council President and Vice President.
- Common Council: The Common Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 15, at 6:30 p.m. in hybrid format. Agenda items include allowing for hotels to rent 50% of their rooms for stays of thirty consecutive days or more.
- Board of Public Works: The Board of Public Works meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 16, at 4:30 p.m. in virtual format. Agenda items include authorizing a contract for design engineering services for the Regent Street reconstruction.

- The Equal Opportunities Commission is now seeking nominations for the annual Reverend James C. Wright Human Rights Award. Nominations are due by April 30, 2025: The City of Madison Equal Opportunities Division (EOD) and the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) presents the Reverend James C. Wright Human Rights Award annually. The award honors the late Reverend James C. Wright, who served as Executive Director of the Equal Opportunities Commission from its inception in 1968 until his retirement in 1992. One or more awards will be presented. - City of Madison and Sustain Dane Recycle Better Course Begins on April 17, 2025: The Streets Division is partnering once again with Sustain Dane to offer the online Recycle Better classes. The first opportunity starts on April 17, 2025.
- Streets Division Drop-off Sites Hours Expand Starting April 12, 2025: Starting on Saturday, April 12, 2025, the Streets Division drop-off sites at 402 South Point Road and 4602 Sycamore Avenue will begin their expanded summer hours. Also on Saturday, April 12, 2025, the drop-off site at 121 East Olin Avenue will open.
- New Flooding Risk Map Available During WI Severe Weather Awareness Week: A new map is available for the community to see areas known to historically experience street flooding during storm events in the City of Madison.
- Felland Road Closure Begins April 15: Scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Felland Rd will close to thru traffic, from Lein Rd to Commercial Ave/Hwy T.
- “Madison Madness” results continue conversation on neighborhood priorities: The City of Madison Planning Division’s “Madison Madness” bracket-style community engagement survey wrapped up on Monday, April 7, 2025, after receiving more than a thousand responses over the last few weeks.
- Results of the Recount for the District 19 Aldermanic Race : The City of Madison Board of Canvassers conducted a recount of the votes cast for the office of Alder in District 19 during the April 1 Spring Election, confirming the win for Alder John Guequierre.
- Starker Avenue Resurfacing with Utilities Project: Starker Avenue, from Woodvale Drive to Droster Road, is currently closed to through traffic while S & L Underground completes scheduled resurfacing and utility work in the area.
- Intersection Closure: Mid-Town Road and S. High Point Road: Starting Wednesday, April 16th, Parisi Construction will close the intersection of Mid-Town Road and S. High Point Road to complete utility work within the intersection between the hours of 9 AM and 3 PM daily.
- Ride the Drive Set for August: Get ready to stroll, roll, pedal or glide at Ride the Drive 2025! This year’s event is set for Sunday, August 10 and features three park hubs linked by 2.38 miles of closed streets including portions of John Nolen Drive and Williamson Street.
- Kick Off to Spring Biking Season, City Invites Public to Celebrate its New Autumn Ridge Path : The public is invited to a ribbon-cutting at 9 a.m., April 16, 2025, on Madison’s east side to celebrate the City’s newest multi-use path, Autumn Ridge. The ribbon cutting will be located at 4346 Commercial Avenue.
- Urban Forestry Planting 1,400 Trees in Spring 2025: Urban Forestry’s annual spring planting season has begun. Crews will be planting approximately 1,400 trees along City of Madison streets. There will be 33 different tree species planted.
