Traffic Safety Beacons

Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons

Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (also known as RRFBs) are pedestrian-activated devices used to enhance safety at unsignalized intersections and mid-block crosswalks. They use bright, flashing lights to alert drivers when pedestrians are crossing.

How They Work

  • Pedestrians press a button to activate the beacon.
  • Bright, rapidly flashing lights warn drivers to yield.
  • The beacons are typically installed at crosswalks with high pedestrian traffic.

Driver Feedback Boards

Driver Feedback Boards display the speed of approaching vehicles, encouraging drivers to adhere to speed limits. These boards are effective in reducing speeding and improving safety on residential streets and near schools.

How They Work

  • Radar detects the speed of approaching vehicles.
  • The speed is displayed on a digital board.
  • Message like "Slow Down" is shown when high speeds are detected.

School Safety Beacons

School Safety Beacons are flashing lights installed near schools to alert drivers to slow down and be cautious of children crossing the street during school hours.

How They Work

  • Timed to operate during school hours.
  • Flashing lights warn drivers to reduce speed and watch for children.
  • Often used in conjunction with reduced speed limits during school times.
