Madison Represented & Recognized by Wisconsin Clean Cities
posted
by Mahanth S. Joishy, Superintendent
On December 4, 2019 a delegation from City of Madison Fleet and Engineering joined attendees from across Wisconsin for the 25th Annual Wisconsin Clean Cities Stakeholder Meeting & Awards. The event was held at the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee. This was an appropriate venue, because the museum prominently displays the powerful and stylish all-electric LiveWire motorcycle - Harley’s first-ever EV offering - which I got a chance to rev up. During the awards ceremony, Madison was honored with a Sustainable Transportation Leadership Award for our environmental programs. It was received by Sustainability Coordinator Stacie Reece, Fleet Program Manager Tyson Roessler, Fleet Operations Manager Randy Koch, and me.

Wisconsin Clean Cities (WCC) is a non-profit statewide coalition established in 1994, supported by the United States Department of Energy and managed by Legacy Environmental Services, Inc., a certified Women’s Business Enterprise. As the name suggests the coalition is focused on reducing pollution at the local level as well as global greenhouse gas emission level. As of 2019 City of Madison Fleet Service is a member organization along with a number of other local governments and companies across Wisconsin including Kwik Trip, Alliant Energy, Wisconsin State Office of Energy Innovation (OEI), and City of Milwaukee Fleet Service. An outstanding list of speakers included City of Milwaukee Director of Environmental Sustainability Erick Shambarger, US Dept. of Energy Technology Integration Program Manager Mark Smith, WCC Executive Director Lorrie Lisek, OEI Director Maria Redmond, and Harley Davidson Live Wire Chief Engineer Jeff Richlen. I was also able to join fleet managers from Milwaukee and Racine on a panel to discuss alternative fuel options and best practices. We are all in this fight for the planet together and the Clean Cities network has proved there is strength in numbers.
2019 has been a great year for Fleet, and it is great to be recognized for the work our whole team is doing. Read more about our sustainability efforts here!
