City of Madison Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Each fall, we celebrate the achievements and contributions of Hispanic and Latine Americans and celebrating Hispanic and Latine American culture during Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 through October 15.

This year's celebration is underway at various city agencies and throughout our City. I enjoyed kicking off the celebration at the Viva Mexico Festival, where I presented the organizers with a proclamation. I’m looking forward to the annual 13th Annual Hispanic Heritage Luncheon, hosted by La Movida. I hope you will take some time over the next month to celebrate and learn as well.

Our City's Latino Community Engagement Team is hosting two speakers - Dr. Armando Ibarra and Attorney Aissa Olivarez – who will help educate City staff on issues around immigration and supporting immigrant communities. They are also hosting the "Immigrant Journeys" display at the Central Library from September 25 to October 13 in partnership with the Wisconsin Humanities Council's Love Wisconsin project.
