Forensic Services Unit
The Madison Police Department's Forensic Services Unit (FSU) is committed to performing unbiased and high-quality forensic analysis, which is accurate, precise, reliable, and timely. FSU's function is to provide investigative information through the application of various scientific techniques recovered during a criminal investigation. FSU is staffed with a combination of Crime Scene Investigators and Professional Staff.
Investigators are staffed 24/7 and respond to major crime scenes. Investigators duties consist of searching, preserving, and maintaining crime scenes. This process includes the documentation of the scene through photography and video, forensic mapping/3D scanning, as well as the identification, collection, and processing/analysis of physical evidence. Two Investigators specialize in digital forensic software systems, forensic analytical techniques, hardware and software and information systems. p>
The Forensic Video Analyst specializes in the ability to forensically recover, analyze, edit and store video evidence. The Forensic Laboratory Technician specializes in the procedural digital multimedia duties, digital editing, storage, duplicating and tracking of digital multimedia evidence.
