Two Cats Safe Following Northside Fire

Two cats are safe following a fire that damaged a home on Madison's north side Saturday afternoon.

The Madison Fire Department was dispatched at 12:50 pm to the 1800 block of Elka Lane for a structure fire.  Firefighters arrived within 3 minutes and discovered a fire in the basement of the home.  The fire was quickly extinguished and the home searched for any occupants.  The two cats were removed from the home unharmed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported.  The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage.
