Training

The Training Division is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all training activities for the Department. Under the supervision of the Division of Fire Training, recruits prepare for a career in the fire service.

The Training Division conducts a Fire Academy for all incoming members that lasts approximately 20 weeks. The department provides additional required training for recruits who must attain their EMT-Basic and/or Hazmat Tech certifications.

In addition, the Training Division develops and delivers curriculum for all levels of commissioned personnel throughout the year.

Training officers also continue to provide CPR/AED training to employees of:

  • Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center
  • City of Madison Parks Division
  • City of Madison Engineering Division
  • City of Madison Police Department

Best practices in safety on the fire ground are an integral part of all Department training.
